Nobel prize winner Dylan, the sculptor
Bob Dylan has 48 albums to his name, penned more than 600 songs, won a Nobel Prize but his talents are not limited to simply words, he can even create magic with iron.
The American singer, songwriter and artist is not a man of few talents and one of his great passions, welding, is a result of his heritage-Minnesota’s Iron Range, reports LA Times.
He has sculpted ironwork for friends and family for a long time but it wasn’t until 2013 that the public got a peek, according to the LA Times.
People visiting the Maryland resort will get a glimpse when MGM National Harbor opens its doors later this year.
Guests will be greeted by a sculpted iron archway commissioned by the resort and designed by Dylan, reports LA Times.
The 26-foot by 15-foot piece reportedly will be the songwriter’s first permanent work of art for a public space.
Usually, Dylan’s sculptures feature junkyard scraps -- old metal, chains, wheels and children’s toys -- that he welds together himself.
“As a company founded upon entertainment, we’re truly inspired by artists who channel their energy into diverse paths,” Jim Murren, chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International, was quoted as saying according to the LA Times.
