While the government has recently announced a welfare fund for film artistes, no such initiative is being taken for television artistes in this regard.

Obhinoy Shilpi Shongho (Bangladesh's television actors' association), has called a press conference tomorrow at 11 am tomorrow where they will present their demands for consideration.

"Our organisation has a few demands. One of those demands is that television artistes want government welfare funds for themselves during this distressful time," Ahsan Habib Nasim, general secretary of the informs The Daily Star: "We have reached out to the Information Minister 2 times in the last 3 months where we had discussed this issue. However, we are yet to receive any response from their side."

Obhinoy Shilpi Shongho had recently hosted a meeting at their official premises where all the actors and other television workers came together to decide upon their claims.

"A lot of people work in this industry. While the film actors have been supported by the government funds during the coronavirus pandemic, the television industry is struggling to cope up with the 'new normal'," Shahiduzzaman Selim, the President of Obhinoy Shilpi Shongho. "We will be very grateful to the government if they consider our plea."
