Manipuri dancer-choreographer Samina Husain Prema was recently accorded a rare honour, by the Vishnupriya Manipuri community in India. She was felicitated in a ceremony in Guwahati of Assam (India), for her contribution for the Manipuri dance form. 

She was honoured at an event marking the 120th birth anniversary of Gitiswami Gokulananda, one of the most prominent figures for the Vishnupriya Manipuri community.

Prema also performed dance at the event, held at the Shilpagram auditorium.

Samina Husain Prema has been a forerunning practitioner of Manipuri dance in the country, training aspiring dancers at her dance school Bhabna. Their latest production, dance-drama “Shakuntala”, premiered this September and was met with critical and popular acclaim.
