To preserve and promote the songs of legendary folk singer Abdul Alim, Abdul Alim Foundation has undertaken an initiative where Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO provides overall assistance. The organisations are working on the theme “Preservation and Promotion of the Songs of Abdul Alim." Under the UNESCO Participation Programme 2014-2015, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is giving strategic assistance to the noble cause.

A talent hunt programme for folk artistes was launched across Bangladesh earlier this year. The programmes were held in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Khulna, Barisal, Sylhet and Rangpur divisions under the artistes' selection programme. Today selected artistes and researchers from all the divisions will take part in a  programme at the National Music and Dance Centre auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy at 6pm.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid will attend the programme as chief guest while Information Secretary Mortuza Ahmed and Education Secretary Sohrab Hossain will be present as special guests. Bangladesh UNESCO National Commission Secretary M. Monzur Hossain will preside over the programme.

A book on Abdul Alim along with a high-quality DVD will be launched at the programme. The guests will hand over awards among the folk researchers and singers. A documentary will also be screened at the opening of the event.
