‘Sabdabali Drama Festival’ underway at Barishal

With the tagline, ‘Theatre develops a lifestyle of values’ the Sabdabali Drama Festival began in Barishal on December 26, 2019. Theatre artistes from Bangladesh, India and Nepal are participating in the six-day event, which concludes on December 31. K M Khalid, State Minister of Cultural Affairs, inaugurated the festival as the chief guest, alongside Serniabat Sadik Abdullha, Mayor, Barishal City Corporation.
At the festival, Abdur Razzak Murad (Rangpur), and Rajot Kanti Gupta (Sylhet) were presented with the Gias-Milon Memorial Award for 2018 and 2019, respectively. Among others, Md Sahabuddin Khan, Police Commissioner of Barishal Metropolitan Police (BMP) and S M Ajair Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of BMP, addressed the audience at the event. Syed Dulal, President, Shabdabali Group Theatre, presided over the inaugural ceremony.
The play, Baisakhani, was presented at Shabdabali Studio’s theatre stage on the opening day. Ujane Mrittu, by Palakar (Dhaka), was staged yesterday.
Artistes from Notom (Kolkata) will perform in the play, Makkoman, while artistes from Balark Theatre will stage Totar Kahini.Deukasi will be staged by Aadityadi from Nepal.
