Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artiste Subrata Sengupta no more
Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendra (SBBK) artiste Subrata Sengupta passed away today.
The Tagore singer breathed his last at Green Life Hospital in Dhaka this morning.
He was suffering from prostate cancer alongside other old age complications, his family sources said.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor has expressed his deep shock at the demise of the singer.
Sengupta, son of Swadeshi Movement leader Sudhir Sengupta, was a student of Pt Barin Majumdar’s music school in Dhaka’s Segunbagicha when the Liberation War of Bangladesh began in 1971.
Sengupta joined the Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendra in Kolkata where he wrote many songs on the Liberation War and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Subrata Sengupta left behind his wife Joli Sengupta, two sons -- Subhadip Sengupta and Sangeet Sengupta -- and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
His body will be taken to Postogola for cremation, his family told The Daily Star.
