Shooting of Bangabandhu biopic to start next month
A film on Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's life -- a Bangladesh-India joint venture commemorating his 100th birth anniversary, is in the making. The shooting for this much anticipated film was scheduled to start in March this year, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic the shoot is now scheduled to start in January next year.
The first part of the film is set to be shot in Mumbai, India. Nuzhat Yasmin, Managing Director of BFDC confirmed the news to The Daily Star. "The director has finalised the shooting date recently and it is set to start in January," shares Nuzhat.
Arifin Shuvoo will play the role of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Nusrat Imrose Tisha will portray the role of Sheikh Fazilatunnesa while Nusraat Faria will play the role of Sheikh Hasina and Tauquir Ahmed in the role of Sohrawardy, among others.
"My shoot will start from January 20 in Mumbai and I am preparing for the shoot accordingly," shares Dilara Zaman. The Ekushey Padak winning actor will be portraying the role of Bangabandhu's mother.
"I will be playing Bangabandhu's father in the film and I am very excited about my role," shares actor Khairul Alam Sabuj. "Based on the famous image of Bangabandhu and his father, I collected a similar piece of clothing for my role."
Acclaimed director Shyam Benegal will be directing the film, the director visited Bangladesh to select several locations for the shoot, unfortunately, due to the ongoing pandemic, and the first part of shoot will now start from Mumbai, and then later continue in Bangladesh.
Atul Tiwari and Shama Zaidi will write the screenplay of the film. Shyam Benegal's daughter Piya Benegal is the costume director, while Nitish Roy is the art director of the film.
