Tareque Masud Festival beings at BSA
A two-day festival to commemorate noted filmmaker late Tareque Masud began at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) on March 12.
Tareque Masud Memorial Trust is organizing the third edition of the festival in association with Moviyana Film Society and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
On the opening day, noted Indian film scholar Biren Das Sharma, Associate Professor of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata presented Tareque Masud Memorial Lecture at the seminar room of the National Theatre Hall. The theme of the lecture was “Hollywood's Orientalism”.
The main part of the festival will take place today. The awards ceremony of Tareque Masud Young Filmmakers' Competition and film screening will be held at the Chitrashala Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy today at 6pm.
Young filmmakers between the ages of 16-25 submitted their films on the theme “Justice is My Right”. Of them, top 10 films will be screened at the festival.
The best filmmaker will receive Tareque Masud Young Filmmaker Award and a cash prize, while top six filmmakers will receive scholarships to study filmmaking with Bangladesh Film Institute (BFI) and Moviyana Film Society.
Khushi Kabir, coordinator of NGO Nijera Kori, human rights lawyer Sara Hossain and Tareque Masud Memorial Trust chairperson Catherine Masud will speak at the awards ceremony. Liaquat Ali Lucky, director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, will preside over programme.
