To welcome a new dawn …

'New Year' is a man-made concept – it's a cyclic order of dates that return after the earth completes a revolution around the Sun. The day in itself doesn't promise to bring anything special, but it is we who make it special with our celebrations filled with and fueled by new aspirations – for what is man without his hopes and dreams? As the Bangla Noboborsho (New Year) 1424 knocks on the door, Charukola (The Faculty of Fine Art, Dhaka University) dresses up in the brightest, most vibrant colours and motifs to welcome in the dawn of Pahela Baishakh, and with it the tens of thousands of Dhaka residents who will flock to it, dressed in their best panjabi and saree, to leave behind the woes of the year gone by and usher in a new one with peace, prosperity and joy.
