Winners of ‘Fight Against Corona Cartoon Competition’ announced
In the face of a global emergency, Cartoon People organised a unique project to raise awareness about COVID-19. Titled Fight Against Corona Cartoon Competition, a contest with was launched the support of Access to Information Program (a2i).
The competition was announced in early April and since then, more than 300 participants, both local and international, submitted 787 cartoons. The winners of the competition were announced recently. They are - Mahtab Rasheed in first place, Rakeeb Razzaq as the runner-up and Sayed Fida Hossain in third place. The winners will receive 50,000 BDT, 30,000 BDT and 20,000 BDT respectively.
Renowned cartoonist and editor of Unmad magazine Ahsan Habib, poet and journalist Anik Khan, writer and animated film production manager Wahid Ibn Reza were the judges for the competition.
"From the very beginning of crisis, we have been wondering what we could do as cartoonists. We wanted to act as a support, and that was how this competition and online exhibition came to be", said Syed Rashad Imam Tanmoy, founder of Cartoon People.
Out of 787 submissions, 154 cartoons were selected for the final exhibition. The cartoons focused on themes such including personal hygiene, social distancing and myth-busting.
Some cartoons portrayed the dangers of not maintaining social distancing, while some shed light upon the heroism of the frontline fighters of the pandemic.
