Bangladesh observed World Theatre Day on March 27 amid festivity and enthusiasm.

Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation (BGTF), International Theatre Institute Bangladesh, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) and Pothonatok Parishad jointly held programme at Mahila Samiti Auditorium in the capital to mark the day.

A large number of theatre activists and theatre leaders brought out a rally from BSA to Mahila Samiti premises as part of the programme. They wore black badges demanding justice for Tonu.

Later, a discussion was held with the participation of prominent theatre personalities.

Noted theatre artiste Lucky Inam read a citation, while BGTF chairman Liaquat Ali Lucky delivered the welcome address, and general secretary Akhtaruzzaman hosted the programme. In addition, a number of distinguished guests including thespian Jhuna Chowdhury, and Deboprasad Debnath attended the programme.

Celebrated theatre personality Ferdousi Majumdar was honoured with the World Theatre Day Award for her outstanding contribution to the theatre arena of the country. Veteran thespian Nasiruddin Yousuff handed over the award to her.

Ferdousi Majumdar expressed her gratitude in her speech, and demanded justice for Tonu.

Following the discussion, Islamuddin Palakar mesmerised the audience with his pala-gaan "Komola Ronger Sagordighee".
