Nazrul is lauded as a literary and musical genius, whose work continues to inspire generations decades after his death.

But his contribution to films is something that's probably not as discussed. Nazrul jointly directed the 1934 film “Dhrubo” with Satyendranath Dutta, where he also acted in the role of Narad. He also worked in a number of films as lyricist and composer, most notably in Naresh Mitra's 1938 film “Gora” based on Rabindranath Tagore's novel of the same name.

A programme on Nazrul's work in film, named “Cholocchitre Nazrul”, will air at 2:30pm today on SATV. Based on Anupam Hayat's research, Suborno Kazi has hosted the programme. Shahin Mahmud has produced the programme.
