Will Bangladesh field its best ever team in the 2019 World Cup

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza celebrated his 200th ODI in style earlier this week, with a three-wicket haul that outfoxed a hard-hitting West Indian line-up and restricted the visitors to a below-par total, which the Tigers eventually cruised past with ease at Mirpur.

Can bank alliances prevent human trafficking?

In early 2018, the Italian police intercepted a trafficking ring that dealt with workers from Bangladesh and India. Similar to almost every other trafficking story, the workers, in this case as well, were given false promises of jobs and brought to the country in exchange of exorbitant recruitment fees.

One can't say that it wasn't on the cards. While Bangladesh did manage to escape a defeat despite poor batting in the first T20I, their bad run got to them in the second.

Tigers scramble home after Waller storm

The difference between Bangladesh's confidence in the ODI and T20I formats was evident in Mirpur yesterday. While the hosts managed to scramble past Zimbabwe's total of 131 at the end of the first T20I, it was their lack of planning in the batting department that seemed to garner more attention.

Tigers back in foreign format

With one eye on the ICC World Twenty20, both Bangladesh and Zimbabwe will take the field in Mirpur today to play the first of the two-match T20I series. Truth be told, neither of the teams boast a good record in this format of the game. While the Tigers have won 12 out of their 44 matches so far, Zimbabwe have won 7 out of 40. And though the two teams have regularly faced each other in Tests and ODIs, they have played each other just thrice in the T20 format, with Bangladesh winning two of those encounters. Interestingly, the teams began their journey in this format by playing against each other in Khulna back in 2006.

From a brilliant century stand and a run-out controversy to Mashrafe Bin Mortaza introducing a seven-man slip cordon and Mustafizur Rahman's third five-wicket haul, the 3-0 series sweep of Zimbabwe was completed in emphatic fashion by the Tigers yesterday.

Tigers seal fifth series on the trot

A confident 76 from Imrul Kayes, which sent a warning to Bangladesh's top order batsman who are yet to click in this series and some aggressive captaincy from Mashrafe Bin Mortaza led Bangladesh to their fifth consecutive home series victory. The hosts might have ended up winning by a comfortable 58 runs in Mirpur yesterday, however, the story could have been different had Imrul, who had made a late entry into the squad after Soumya Sarkar's injury, not played his boundary-filled knock.

Tigers' eyes on the prize

When the Tigers take the field in Mirpur today, there's no doubt that their sole target will be securing the series. If they win today, it will be the third time that the Tigers won four consecutive series.

A ton, a five-for & a record win

At the end of it all, the result of yesterday's first ODI merely reflected a performance that was expected of the hosts. In terms of the margin, the 145- run victory in Mirpur was Bangladesh's biggest ever against Zimbabwe.

Old rivals face off with new agendas

A comparison of the pre-series scenarios of the current Zimbabwe tour and the one last November couldn't have revealed more contradictory results. The last time Elton Chigumbura and co arrived here, Bangladesh's national team was in tatters. They had lost 12 of their 13 ODIs prior to that series, the team management was heavily shuffled with a new coach on board and a new captain had been assigned.

Consider this for a scenario. The world's top Test side, after dramatically going down in the ODI series and then being bowled out for a paltry 248 in the first Test, now have just one more opportunity to prove their dominance over a side that are miles away from them in terms of rankings.

'Mustafiz can be as successful in Tests'

Three wickets in an over, a player-of-the-match award on debut -- the first person to get the award on both Test and ODI debut -- and the best bowling figures by a Bangladesh pacer in the last two years; there were quite a few feats that Mustafizur Rahman achieved in his first Test.
