2 held over rape of 7th- grader
Habiganj police yesterday arrested two men for their alleged involvement in the rape of a seventh-grader in the district's Baniachang upazila.
The arrestees are Sohel Mia, 30, a private tutor by profession, and Ayub Ali, 30, of Srimangalkandi village in the upazila.
Sohel, who used to tutor the girl asked her to go out of her home on Wednesday night, said police quoting the victim's family members.
In response, the girl complied with the directive.
Sohel and his cohort Ayub then took the girl to a remote place. Sohel raped the girl while Ayub attempted to rape her.
Meanwhile, the victim started screaming, hearing which the accused fled the scene.
Then locals rushed to the spot and rescued the girl, said Zakir Hossain, in-charge of Bithangal police outpost under Baniachang Police Station.
Hours later, the victim's father filed a case against the duo, who were arrested around 2:30am early yesterday.
In primary interrogation, Sohel confessed to the rape of the girl, who was sent to a hospital for medical tests, the police officer added.
In Mymensingh, a court sent a quack to jail on the charge of raping a woman in the district's Muktagacha upazila.
The quack is Khalilur Rahman, 46, a resident of the same upazila.
Quoting the victim, police said the 25-year-old victim used to work in a private clinic in Mymensingh city.
A local named Saiful Islam used to rape her regularly promising to marry.
Recently, Saiful denied marrying her. Then, the victim went to quack seeking his interference to agree with Saiful for marrying her.
On Tuesday night, the quack took the woman to a house in Muktagacha upazila.
Then, the quack, Kader, and four others gang-raped the victim. The criminals released her on Wednesday morning.
In the same afternoon, the victim filed a rape case accusing the six with Muktagacha Police Station.
The victim also filed another rape case against Saiful, said Mohammad Dulal Akanda, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Immediately after filing the case, police arrested the quack. Hours later, he was produced before a court. Then, the court sent him to jail, the OC added.
