5 migrants killed in Oman road crash
At least five Bangladeshi migrant workers were killed in a road accident in Oman yesterday.
Five other people were injured in the incident that took place in Duqm, a port township on the Arabian Sea, according to Bangladesh Embassy in Muscat.
Contacted over phone, Humayun Kabir, labour welfare counsellor, Bangladesh Embassy in Muscat, confirmed the incident.
He denied to comment further about the incident.
Primarily, the dead have been identified as Minhaj, Faruk, Mamun, Rubel, and Milad.
All of them were from Chattogram's Sandwip and aged about 30 or bellow.
The names and nationalities of the injured could not be known immediately.
An official of Bangladesh embassy in Muscat said the accident took place in the morning when the Bangladeshi migrant workers were heading back to Duqm after overnight fishing in the sea.
They were in a vehicle when the accident happened, the official said, preferring not to be named.
He said the bodies were kept under the custody of local police while the injured were admitted to hospital.
The embassy was enquiring into the incident.
