Covid Pandemic: 24 more die, 2,159 infected in a day

Amid rise in Covid-19 infections in Bangladesh, health authorities yesterday reported 2,159 new cases in 24 hours, pushing the country’s total tally to 484,104.

Amid rise in Covid-19 infections in Bangladesh, health authorities yesterday reported 2,159 new cases in 24 hours, pushing the country's total tally to 484,104.

Besides, 24 more people died from the disease during the period, raising the death toll to 6,930.

The mortality rate, however, is still at 1.43 percent, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

So far, 405,966 patients -- 83.86 percent -- including 4,772 new ones in the last 24 hours have recovered.

Bangladesh reported its first case on March 8. The infection number reached the 300,000-mark on August 26.

The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll exceeded 6,000 on November 4.

Until now, 2,911,666 tests have been carried out, including 16,972 new ones, and 16.63 percent of the patients turned out to be positive.

Bangladesh is seeing 2842.55 infections, 2383.74 recoveries, and 40.69 deaths per million.
