Man sent to jail for rape

A Gazipur court yesterday sent a man to jail on charge of raping a garment worker, while another man was sent to prison in Dinajpur for sexually harassing a minor.

Police said the husband of the victim called in his friend Faruk Hossain, 30, a professional driver, in Sreepur upazila after he had a fight with his wife on Saturday evening.

The husband asked Faruk to take his wife to her father's place in Mawna.

Faruk took the woman to a remote area and raped her in the early hours of Sunday.

After the incident, Faruk dropped the victim near her father's house and threatened to kill her if she discloses the matter, said Khandaker Imam Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station.

The victim yesterday filed a case against her husband and Faruk.

The husband is on the run.

In Dinajpur, a court yesterday sent a man to jail on charge of sexually harassing a minor in Ghoraghat upazila.

Police said the three-and-a-half-year-old victim was playing near her house on Sunday afternoon when her neighbour Lal Miah, 48, took her to a nearby bush and sexually harassed her. When the girl started screaming, Lal beat her up.

At one stage, the victim fled the scene and shared the incident with her family members.

Locals caught Lal and beat him up.

On information, police went to the spot and arrested Lal, said Azim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Ghoraghat Police Station.

The victim's uncle lodged a case against Lal, the OC added.
