A man was shot dead by unidentified criminals in broad daylight in Bogura’s Shajahanpur upazila yesterday.

A man was shot dead by unidentified criminals in broad daylight in Bogura's Shajahanpur upazila yesterday.

The victim, Mozaffar Hossain, 55, from Natore's Singra upazila, used to run a Hafezia madrasa and also traded in Ayurvedic medicines. He lived in the town's Nishindhara area, say police.

They suspect he was killed over a family feud or previous enmity.

Quoting witnesses, Additional Superintendent of Police Faisal Mahmud (Sadar Circle) said Mozaffar was going to Bogura town from Nandigram area by an auto-rickshaw yesterday morning.

When the vehicle carrying Mozaffar and four others was crossing the Bogura-Natore regional highway around 9:30am, two criminals who lay in wait on a motorbike there intercepted it. One of the two fired shots at Mozaffar, according to police.

Mozaffar died on the way to hospital, said Faisal.

"The killing could have resulted from a family feud or previous enmity. We are trying to find out…," mentioned the police official.

The body was sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

No case was filed as of 8:00pm yesterday.
