Ninth-grader gang-raped in Cox’s Bazar

A grade-IX student has allegedly been gang-raped in Moheshkhali upazila of Cox's Bazar.

Nurul Hakim, of the upazila's Gulgulia Para, called the girl over phone and asked her to meet him on October 11. As the girl responded, Nurul and his two friends -- Ebadullah and Khairul Amin -- took her to a nearby paddy field and gang-raped her, said police.

They also recorded the incident and blackmailed the girl for money, the law enforcers added.

Mohammad Imranul Kabir, inspector (investigation) of Moheshkhali Police Station, said the victim's mother filed a case with the police station in this regard. The trio was held by locals and handed over to police on Monday.

Meanwhile, a Bogura court yesterday sent a man to jail for allegedly raping a grade-II student in the district's Sherpur upazila.

The accused Rajib Sheikh, 30, of the upazila's Sughat union, also gave confessional statement to the district's senior judicial magistrate court yesterday.

Police said Rajib raped the girl on October 10.

In Lalmonirhat, a court on Tuesday sent a former bank official to jail for sexually harassing four girls at Tepatari village in Kaliganj upazila of the district.

The accused Mobarak Ali, 50, of the same village, had remained absconding since December last year as the incident came into limelight then.

Police said he used to play with children at his village home. He took girls to his room luring them with chocolates and biscuits. Then, he sexually harassed them.

On December 3, 2019, the father of a victim filed a case with police against him.

On Tuesday, he surrendered before the district Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal.

Later, the judge of the tribunal sent him to jail, said Arju Mohammad Sajjad, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station.

In Kushtia, a court yesterday sent a man to jail on charge of raping a woman in Daulatpur upazila.

The accused Rustom Ali, of the same upazila, raped her on Monday night, said police.

In Barishal, five youths were sued on Tuesday over a rape incident at Kazirhat upazila.

Police said a youth named Babu raped the woman with the help of four of his friends in the early hours of Monday.

In Narayanganj, a court yesterday granted two-day remand to an elderly person who was earlier arrested on charge of raping two sisters in Shiddhirganj Police Station area.

In Patuakhali, a woman yesterday filed a police compliant against a local Jubo League leader for attempting to rape her early yesterday in Golachipa upazila's Kacharikanda area.

In Laxmipur, Suman, 26, was arrested for allegedly raping a mentally challenged teenage girl.

Accused Suman works in a tailoring shop in Dhaka's Nilkhet area. The victim's father filed a case with Raipur Police Station in this connection.
