RMG worker gang-raped in Gazipur

A teenage girl was gang-raped allegedly by a group of four youths in Gazipur's Sreepur upazila early yesterday.

The victim, a 16-year-old readymade garment worker, filed a case with Sreepur Police Station yesterday morning.

According to the case statement, the victim came to Sreepur to meet a friend at her rented house in Mauna Uttar Para on Thursday evening.

Around 2:00am yesterday, two caretakers of the building -- Dulu and Babul -- stormed into their house with two other men named Suzan and Munna.

The four youths then threatened the victim with dire consequences and took her to another room where they raped her, said Khandakar Imam Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station.

The accused also looted gold ornaments worth Tk 1.5 lakh and the mobile phone of her friend, according to the case statement.

The girl was sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tazuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for medical tests, the OC added.

Police already arrested Suzan and Babul. They were sent to jail via a court, he said.

"We are conducting raids to arrest the rest," he added.

Meanwhile, Madaripur police arrested four men on Thursday night for allegedly raping a schoolgirl.

The accused are Abdur Rahman Akhan, 26, Rabik Munshi, Murad Sardar, and Alauddin Kabiraj, of the same district.

The victim's father filed a case with Madaripur Sadar Police Station against the four on Thursday night.

According to police and locals, Abdur Rahman Akon brought the student to Baishakhi Residential Hotel in the old market area of ​​Madaripur town on Thursday night.

Later, he raped the student more than once by showing the temptation of marriage. When the student fell ill in the evening, she was admitted to Madaripur General Hospital.

When the matter became suspicious, the hospital authorities detained him and informed the police.

Sohidul Islam, inspector (investigation) of Madaripur Sadar Police Station, said, "On information, we rushed to the spot and got to know the incident. We arrested Abdur Rahman from the hospital and later we arrested other three including Alauddin Kabiraj, manager of Boishaki Residential Hotel."

All the accused were produced before a court around 11:30am yesterday and the court sent them to jail, he added.
