The third batch of Rohingyas -- around 3,000 -- is set to reach Bhasan Char today from the refugee camp in Cox's Bazar's Ukhia.

The Rohingyas left the camp around noon in 20 buses amid tight security and reached Chattogram later in the day, said Armed Police Battalion (APBn) Additional General Inspector Mosharaf Hossain.

They were kept under the Navy's supervision at Chattogram's Patenga and would be taken to the island, around 40 kilometres off Noakhali, today, the official added.

Confirming the matter, Additional Refugee Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner Md Samsuddoza said all preparations to welcome the 3,000 Rohingyas at Bhasan Char had been taken.

They are going there voluntarily, he added.

According to locals, the Rohingyas who wanted to go to Bhasan Char willingly were kept at the transit point at Ukhia on Wednesday evening.

The first batch of 1,642 Rohingyas was relocated to Bhasan Char on December 4 while the second batch of over 1,800 others on December 29 last year.
