BNP vows freedom of speech, to scrap ‘black’ laws
BNP unveiled its election manifesto today, putting major emphasis on pledges of freedom of speech and abolishing “black laws” of the country.
The main opposition party pledged to ensure freedom of speech and withdraw online vigilance to safeguard public right to opinion on the internet.
BNP also pledged to scrap the controversial Digital Security Act, medieval Official Secrets Act and other black laws erected during the tenure of Awami League.
Also, the party has vowed to put an end to extrajudicial killing, enforced disappearances, and inhumane physical and mental torture.
Additionally, it pledged to open the field for “logical” criticisms of political personalities.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, secretary general of the opposing political party, unveiled BNP’s charter of promises at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
