5 injured in clash after freedom fighter’s death at Tangail General Hospital

Five people were injured in a clash between relatives of a freedom fighter and doctors and staff of Tangail General Hospital last night.
Nur-e-Khoda Rayez, a valiant freedom fighter from Hugra area of Sadar upazila, was admitted to the hospital yesterday morning and died later at night. After his death, his relatives vandalised a room of the hospital, alleging negligence in his treatment, said our correspondent.
Five people were injured when hospital's Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Shafiqul Islam Sajib came with some people and a clash ensued between them and relatives of the freedom fighter, the deceased's family members claimed. Later the police arrived and brought the situation under control.
Atiqur Rahman Imran, son of the freedom fighter, claimed that his father was left on the floor unattended. Later that night, his condition worsened but no doctor was found despite many calls, he alleged. His father later died after being given an injection by the duty nurse, Imran said.
He added that RMO Dr Sajib and his team attacked them shortly after they broke a glass door.
Hugra Union Parishad Chairman Tofazzal Hossain, who was present during the time of the incident, said that Dr Sajib came with his team and beat up the patient's relatives.
RMO Dr Sajib said that the freedom fighter was admitted in the morning after a massive heart attack and died at night while undergoing treatment. After his death, a relative of the patient beat up a nurse and vandalised the hospital. Upon reaching there, he was also attacked by the relatives, he added.
