A newlywed couple, injured in the deadly fire in Old Dhaka's Armanitola yesterday, were put on life support at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Muna Sarkar and Ashiquzzaman Khan -- both computer engineers -- tied the knot one and a half months back. Their wedding reception was yet to be held.

Ashiquzzaman was at his in-laws' house in Armanitola during the incident, said Muna's brother Junaid Sarkar, who is undergoing treatment at the hospital as well.

Both of them lost consciousness when the fire broke out at a chemical storage facility on the ground floor of the six-storey Musa Mansion early yesterday. The devastating fire left four people dead and 23 wounded.

Muna and Ashiquzzaman were put on life support today, Dr Samanta Lal Sen, coordinator of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed to The Daily Star.

Two other persons burnt in the incident are also in the Intensive Care Unit (ICT) of the hospital and they are in serious condition, the doctor said.

Sixteen more people are receiving treatment at the hospital.
