Armanitola fire: Newlywed husband dies, wife still on life support

Ashiquzzaman Khan, who was injured in the deadly fire in Old Dhaka's Armanitola on April 23, died at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery last night.

Ashiquzzaman Khan, who was injured in the deadly fire in Old Dhaka's Armanitola on April 23, died at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery last night.

He breathed his last at the Intensive care unit around 11:45pm yesterday, said Partha Sanker Paul, resident surgeon of the institute.

His wife Muna Sarkar is still on life support, Partha Sanker said.

With Ashiquzzaman, the death toll from the fire incident stood at six. 

Muna and Ashiquzzaman – both computer engineers by profession -- lost consciousness when the fire broke out on the ground floor of the six-storied Musa Mansion on April 23.

A day after the incident, the couple was put on life support at the institute.

Ashiquzzaman and Muna tied the knot around one and a half months ago. Their wedding reception was yet to be held.

Ashiquzzaman was at his in-laws' house in Armanitola when the fire broke out.
