Baby dies in Barguna after choking on litchi

A 13-month-old boy from Barguna's Amtali municipality area died after choking on a litchi.

A 13-month-old boy from Barguna's Amtali municipality area died after choking on a litchi.

According to the deceased's family, the child Muaz's father – Ibrahim Khalil, police inspector of Barishal Police, brought some litchis for his children. Khalil's sister gave a litchi to Muaz which later got stuck in his throat when he swallowed the whole fruit.

Muaz was rushed to Amtali Upazila Health Complex after his family failed to get the fruit out.

The on-duty doctor removed the litchi from his throat. Later he was sent to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital after his body turned blue and his brain and heart were affected badly due to shortage of oxygen, said the doctors of Amtali Upazila Health Complex, Imdadul Haque Chowdhury and Farzana Akhter Dina.

Muaz's grandfather Mawlana Ruhul Amin said, Muaz died on the way to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital and was later buried in his family graveyard after Zuhr prayers today.
