BSF obstructs construction of Bangabandhu museum in Lalmonirhat

Construction work of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Museum at Dahagram of Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat has been halted due to obstruction by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF).
The patrolling team of Indian BSF obstructed the construction work at Tinbigha Corridor on Dahagram-Angorpota road of the upazila this noon, our Lalmonirhat correspondent reports quoting Nayek Subedar Abdus Samad Sarkar, camp commander of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) of Dahagram.
The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) has taken up the initiative to build a memorial museum of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the area at a cost of Tk 33 lakh.
Subedar Abdus Samad said LGED started construction of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum this morning.
"BSF protested the construction at noon saying that the museum was being constructed within 150 yards of the border. The construction work was halted due to the protest. The matter has been reported to higher levels. The decision will be taken after discussions between the two countries," the official said.
On information, Dahagram Union Parishad Chairman Kamal Hossain rushed to the spot and talked with BSF and BGB.
Ali Ashraf, executive engineer of Lalmonirhat LGED, told The Daily Star that work remains halted due to the protest by BSF.
Further action will be taken as per talks between the two countries, he added.
Patgram Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Saifur Rahman said he had informed the matter to higher authorities.
