Chemicals worth Tk 50 lakh gutted in fire at Benapole port

A huge amount of chemicals worth around Tk 50 lakh which was imported from India were gutted in a fire at Benapole land port in Jashore this evening.
The chemicals loaded in a truck suddenly caught on fire in the port around 7pm, said Benapole Port Director Abdul Jalil.
On information, two units of fire-fighters rushed to the spot and doused the blaze, our Benapole correspondent reports quoting the director.
The fire is likely to have caused a damage of Tk 50 lakh, he said.
Abdul Jalil further said Standard Finish Oil Company, Dhaka imported 1,000 sacks of chemicals worth US $ 8,000 from India.
The goods on a truck were kept in front of shed 32 in the port for unloading but the chemicals suddenly caught fire in the evening, he said.
A probe committee will be formed to investigate the fire, added the director.
