Cyclone Yaas: 1048 shelters and 114 medical teams getting prepared in Khulna

Khulna district administration has taken extensive preparations to tackle Cyclone Yaas. Work on preparing 1,048 shelters in nine upazilas has already started. In addition, 114 medical teams are kept ready along with several thousand volunteers. Fire Service and Civil Defense are also prepared.
According to several members of the District Disaster Management Committee, the district administration is trying its best to ensure as many shelters as possible because of Covid-19.
Khulna District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Azizul Haque Joardar said 814 shelters were set up during Cyclone Amphan last year.
He added that a total of 114 medical teams have been prepared, five in each upazila and one in each union. Moreover, adequate amount of dry food and money are ready, which will be given away as per government instruction, he said.
Amirul Azad, a senior meteorologist of the Khulna Meteorological Office, told The Daily Star that Yaas has not yet turned into a cyclone, however, it may soon turn into one.
At present it is located 695 km away from Mongla Port, 645 km from Payra Port, 700 km from Chattogram Port and 625 km from Cox's Bazar.
It will become more concentrated and cross the coast of Odisha, West Bengal around May 26, he added.
