Cyclone Yaas: 727 km rural roads damaged in Patuakhali

In total, 727.81 km of rural roads, including three bridges and three culverts, were damaged in Patuakhali due to the storm triggered by Cyclone Yaas.
About Tk 94.61 crore is required to repair the roads and rural infrastructure, said Senior Assistant Engineer of Patuakhali Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) Jugal Chandra Mandal.
The LGED official said that the rural infrastructure of the district was severely damaged due to the impact of Yaas on May 26.
Of the total, 156.14 km roads were damaged in Sadar, 221.24 km in Baufal, 26.48 km in Dashmina, 169.72 km in Galachipa, 31.64 km in Dumki, 50.60 km in Mirzaganj and 71.99 km in Rangabali upazilas.
In addition, 31.10 km of rural roads built on the embankment along the river bank of Sadar upazila was washed away.
An under-construction bridge that separates Muradia and Srirampur unions in Dumki upazila of the district was damaged.
Soil on the both sides of the bridge was washed away and the under-construction structure was damaged due to the pressure of the water, reports our Patuakhali correspondent.
Roads in the Koralia launch ghat area of Chhoto Baishadia union in Rangabali upazila of the district was also washed away in the high tide, the official said.
Three UP offices and four government primary schools in Dumki upazila were damaged.
