Dhaka North City Corporation is going to hire a third-party for anti-mosquito drive for the first time in specific areas of the city.

"We are going to outsource a company on pilot basis to control mosquito menace in region-3 (Gulshan, Banani and Mohakhali) where there are lake, slums and upmarket  areas," DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam told reporters during a drive in Mohammadpur area to eradicate larvae of Aedes mosquito.

As a test case, all modern facilities will be in places to control mosquito in the area," he said, adding four mosquito bites in 24 hours will be counted acceptable.

"Otherwise we will not pay the company," he said.

The mayor said they would float a tender soon for the work. A company having technical knowledge, modern facilities and own lab will get the job, he said.

Atiqul said there is no alternative to collective awareness to prevent dengue and urged city dwellers to remove stagnant water inside and outside buildings to destroy Aedes mosquito breeding grounds.
