Five candidates reinstated to Rucsu polls
Five out of seven initially disqualified candidates in the Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (Rucsu) and Senate student representative elections have regained their candidature.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of Rucsu, F Nazrul Islam, confirmed the matter during a press briefing in front of the Rucsu treasurer's office at 4:00pm today.
Among those reinstated are Sagor Ahmed Mia, contesting for the vice-president (VP) post; Shahin Alam, assistant secretary for environment and social welfare; Research Chakma, assistant secretary for science and technology; and Sujon Chandra Roy, member of the executive committee.
In the Senate student representative election, Omar Faruk Safin Azmir got back his candidature. "Their nomination papers had some minor errors. After appeals, the commission reviewed the cases and declared their candidature valid," the CEC of Rucsu said.
With the revisions, 254 candidates will now contest for 23 posts in the central students' union, while 59 candidates will compete for five posts in the Senate student representative election.
Earlier, the preliminary list published on Wednesday had disqualified seven candidates. Of them, Ashiqur Rahman, running for general secretary (GS), and Senate student representative candidate Maruf Hasan James remain permanently disqualified.
