Hefajat activists attack train in Brahmanbaria; 10 passengers injured

At least 10 passengers were injured when Hefajat activists attacked a Chattogram-bound train from Dhaka –- Sonar Bangla Express -- at Dakshin Poirotola in Brahmanbaria around 10:00am today.
They damaged the engine room and 117 window glasses of 15 coaches of the train, said Brahmanbaria Railway Station master Shoeb Ahmed.
Quoting the guard of the train, the station manager said the Sonar Bangla Express was forced to stop after the hartal supporters put barricade on the railway tracks.
When it stopped, the group attacked the train and damaged almost all the bogies, he said.
The train was taken back to Bhairab railway junction. The train will leave for Chattogram once the situation is normal, the station master said.
Rail communications of Dhaka with Chattogram, Sylhet and Noakhali remain suspended due to barricades on railway tracks at different parts of Brahmanbaria, said Railway Station master Shoeb Ahmed.
Hefajat-e-Islam enforced a dawn-to-dusk hartal across the country today protesting Indian Prime Minister Modi's visit to Bangladesh and police action in Dhaka, Chattogram and Brahmanbaria.
