Impact of Yaas: roads damaged in Bagerhat

Two points on the Carebazar to Sanyasi Bazar road in Morrelganj upzalia of Bagerhat have been badly damaged by tidal water, caused by impact of Cyclone Yaas.
At least 20 ft of the road has been completely ruined in Chaltabunia village of the upazila. As a result, locals are now struggling to move.
Meanwhile, the old Bagerhat-Rupsha road in the district's Sadar upazila was partially damaged, causing disruption in traffic movement. Several rural roads of Morrelganj, Sharankhola, Rampal and Mongla upazilas have also been damaged, said our Bagerhat correspondent.
Bagerhat-4 MP Amirul Alam Milon said, he will contact the authorities for repairing the damaged roads quickly.
Two projects are underway to prepare guide wall along the Baruikhali-Mongla and Baharbunia-Mongla embankments to alleviate the plight of the people of Morrelganj, he added.
Md Farid Uddin, executive engineer, Roads and Highways Department, Bagerhat, said, "As a result of Cyclone Yaas, water level has risen and damaged several parts of our roads. However, the traffic on those roads is still normal. We will calculate the amount of the loss and inform the ministry for repairing the roads as soon as possible."
