Madrasa student Mamun ‘tortured to death’ in Jashore: People take to street demanding justice

Hundreds of locals, including family members of the deceased Mamun Hasan, who was allegedly tortured to death by local members and his associates, have taken to the street today demanding justice.
They formed a human-chain at Sohrabmor-Chanchra Road at Manirampur upazila in Jashore at 10:00am where they demanded immediate arrest of the alleged masterminds.
Mamun's mother Sakina Begum, his father Moshiar Gazi and siblings attended the protest programme with placards. Many women took part in the programme with their children.
"They branded my son as a thief but they have failed to provide any proof regarding their claim," the victim's mother Sakina alleged.
Family members claimed that Mamun had been tortured by UP member Anisur and his associates.
Anisur also threatened to burn Mamun in the brick kiln, his father Moshiar Gazi said.
Anisur, his associates--Siraj, Sohag, Faruq, Altaf and Lavlu-- even threatened to kill other family members, he added.
On February 18, madrasa student Mamun Rahman, 18, was detained in the middle of Khojalipur village of the upazila suspecting him to be a thief and tortured him overnight, his family members alleged.
Family members rescued him following day and took him to Manirampur Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries.
His father Moshiar Gazi filed a case against 12 named and six unnamed people with Manirampur Police Station yesterday.
Of them, three -- Lavlu Hossain, 25, Altaf Hossain, 30, and Sohag Hossain, 19 -- were arrested.
