Man dies in elevator crash in Savar

A readymade garment factory lift operator died in an elevator crash today at Dilkushabagh area in Savar.

The deceased was identified as Jahirul Islam Mishu (32), son of Din Islam of Dhaka's Jatrabari area, reports our Savar correspondent.

Saiful Islam, Inspector (Investigation) of Savar Model Police Station, said the incident took place at GK Garments Limited around 7:00am.

When some people got down on the upper floors, the lift started to descend but got stuck on the third floor. Jahirul tried to pry the door open and come out but the elevator crashed, leaving him seriously injured.

He was later taken to Enam Medical College Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

The body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical Collage Hospital for autopsy, said the inspector, adding that the victim's family members are yet to file any case over the incident.

Police are looking into the matter.
