PM sings ‘O ki garial bhai’ during Ecnec meeting

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today sang a line from the popular Bhawaiya song "O ki garial bhai" over the issue of the Chilmari river port during a meeting of Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec).

Planning Minister MA Mannan said this while he was briefing reporters after the meeting.

Sheikh Hasina chaired the Ecnec meeting from Gono Bhaban virtually, while ministers and concerned officials attended from the NEC conference room.

Today, Ecnec approved the construction of modern river port at Chilmari worth Tk 235 crore. The plan is to implement the work by 2023.

The planning minister said "during approval of the project, the prime minister song a line of Bhawaiya song 'O ki garial bhai'." The song was a contribution by the late legendary singer Abbasuddin Ahmed.

The minister said if the project is implemented, trade with neighboring countries will increase.

There was a port here before but it was closed later. "We want to increase regional trade," said MA Mannan.
