Sporadic rain, high tide increase water level in Bhasan Char

Water level around Noakhali's Bhasan Char rose this morning due to sporadic rainfall since last night.

High tide around the island was also persistent contributing to the rising water level, reports our staff correspondent from the island.

However, even during high tide, the water level did not cross the first layer of protection of the embankment, our correspondent reports, adding that the island is surrounded with a four-layered protection.

Authorities remain alert and were cautioning residents against panic and rumours.
