Stranded Bangladeshi expats to form human chain on June 1 demanding return to Malaysia

Bangladeshi expatriates who returned from Malaysia and have been stranded here for 14 months will form a human chain in front of the National Pres Club on June 1 to demand that they be allowed to go back to their workplaces.
Ismail Mohammad, a stranded expatriate and one of the organisers of the human chain, said, "We have waited for a long period but did not get any result. We want the government to take diplomatic initiatives to send us back to that country [Malaysia]. Also, we want the government to give us [Covid-19] vaccines before sending us there."
Around 25,000 expatriates returned to Bangladesh from Malaysia on leave but could not go back due to the Covid-19 pandemic as flights between the two countries were suspended.
The expatriates have been stranded in Bangladesh for around 14 months.
They sought assistance from the Bangladesh government to return to Malaysia in September and November last year but are yet to get any response from the government in this regard.
