The mayor of Washington DC has declared March 26, the Independence Day of Bangladesh, as "Bangladesh Day."

The mayor of Washington DC has declared March 26, the Independence Day of Bangladesh, as "Bangladesh Day."

Mayor Muriel Bowser also congratulated the government and people of Bangladesh on the golden jubilee of the country's independence which is being celebrated with birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC revealed today.

The mayor signed a proclamation saying that under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh is blooming and transforming into "Golden Bangla" as dreamt by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

From now on the people of Washington DC will celebrate Bangladesh's Independence Day as "Bangladesh Day" every year, reports our diplomatic correspondent.
