Weeklong restriction begins: no bus; large number of cars, rickshaws on Dhaka roads

No public transports are plying Dhaka streets, and markets, shops on the main thoroughfares remain closed as the government-imposed weeklong restrictions on transport and public movement began today to check the spread of coronavirus.

No public transports are plying Dhaka streets, and markets, shops on the main thoroughfares remain closed as the government-imposed weeklong restrictions on transport and public movement began today to check the spread of coronavirus.

The restrictions came into effect from 6:00am.

Officer-goers were seen taking rickshaws or walking to their destinations.

A large number of private cars, rickshaws and CNG-run auto-rickshaws were seen on the roads including in Moghbazar, Tejgaon, Satrasta intersection, Dhanmondi and Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue.

All restaurants remained closed in the morning but as the day progressed, some started opening up -- only offering takeaway.

Law enforcers were seen patrolling at some key points.
