Woman dies after covered van hits auto-rickshaw in Sitakunda

A woman died after the auto-rickshaw carrying her was hit by a speeding covered van this morning at Sitakunda on Dhaka-Chattogram highway.

The accident occurred at 9:00am at Uttar Bazar area of Sitakunda upazila, just hundred yards away from the police station.

The deceased was identified as Nurjahan Begum (55), hailing from Uttar Mohadebpur of Sitakunda upazila.

Md Faruk, inspector of Highway Police, quoting locals, told The Daily Star that a speeding covered van hit the auto-rickshaw carrying Nurjahan, leaving her severely injured. Bystanders rushed her to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH)

Shilbroto Das, Nayek of CMCH police outpost, told The Daily Star that Nurjahan succumbed to her injuries when she was brought to the hospital.

Alal Uddin, nephew of Nurjahan, told The Daily Star that his aunt stepped out to shop for Ramadan.
