Worker dead, 6 others injured after roof of under construction DND project collapses in Narayanganj

A worker was killed and six others injured after the roof of the main gate of an under construction pump station on Dhaka-Narayanganj-Demra (DND) project collapsed at Shimrail area of Naranyanganj Sadar upazila today.

The deceased was identified as Ashraful Islam, 28, son of Joban Ali, hailing from Nilphamari, reports our Narayanganj correspondent quoting Ruhul Amin Mollah, senior station officer of Adamji EPZ Fire Service and Civil Defence in Narayanganj.

Injured -- Miron (28), Jahir (20), Badsha Miah (35), Enamul (24), Habibur Rahman (24) and Abdul Motaleb (30) -- received treatment at the local hospital of Narayanganj.

On information, a team of fire service rushed to the spot and rescued a critically injured worker and took him to Narayanganj Sadar Hospital where on duty doctors declared him dead.

Ahsanut Takbeem Chowdhury, project director of DND, said one worker has died in the roof collapse incident while six other workers received injuries.

An official of the project, wishing to be anonymous, said the development project's partnering organisations were asked to provide Tk 50,000 cash for the funeral of the worker and Tk 5 lakh compensation for the victim's family members.  

It is also being investigated whether there was any negligence by the concerned authorities and why the accident took place, he added.
