Saifur Rahman on suspension of BCCI operations
Finance Minister Saifur Rahman said on Monday that the Government had decided to suspend the operations of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) In the public interest. The government has also written to the owners of the bank and the Bank of England to protect the interests of Bangladeshi depositors. the Minister told Parliament. Saifur Rahman said MCI was not incorporated in Bangladesh as a company. but operating as a branch. It would take some time for all things about the bunk to be clear. he said. He hoped that a final decision on it would be taken soon. Some more countries suspended the operations of the bank by Monday. he said. Earlier, the House admitted a call attention notice submitted by Rahman All of Awami League about the situation alining out of the suspension of all operations of BCCI in Bangladesh. An adjournment notice on the question was rejected by Deputy Speaker Sheikh Razzak All who was in the chair.
