The speakers at a seminar emphasised the need for skilled manpower in Bangladesh's leather industry, saying that it has a significant export potential.

The Leather Engineering Department of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet) organised the seminar titled "Exploring Leather Sector: Future Scopes, Employment Opportunities and Challenges" at its Student Welfare Center yesterday.

Kuet Vice-Chancellor Mihir Ranjan Halder was present as the chief guest.

Md Sahidul Islam, dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; and Syed Nashim Manzur, managing director of Apex Footwear Ltd, were present as special guests.

Assistant Professor Zia Uddin Md Chowdhury delivered welcome speech at the event presided over by Md Abul Hashem, head of the department of the Leather Engineering Department.

Besides, Kazi Jamil Islam, managing director of Lotto Bangladesh; AKM Moshfiqur Rahman Masud, president of Leather Engineers and Technologists Society; Kazi Mahadi Hasan, production and quality manager of Puma Bangladesh; Mostak Sam Billah, proprietor of Golden Frog Leather Products Ltd; Syed Atiqul Islam of Venturi Leather Manu (BD) Ltd; and Tariqul Islam Khan, managing director of Marsons Tannery Ltd, were also present.
