Tk 212 crore allocated as arrears for 21,552 jute mill workers

The Finance Ministry today allocated Tk 212.08 crore for 21,552 workers who were not permanent at jute mills, now closed, under Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC).
The arrears will be paid through cheques, a press release of the ministry said.
BGMC will have to sign a deal for loan with the finance ministry for the allocation.
The allocation can't be spent for any other purpose except arrears for the 21,552 temporary workers under 18 jute mills, the release said.
To get the payment, the workers have to show token and unique ID numbers, given by the mills, national identity cards and bank account numbers. The arrears must be paid after checking NID and bank account numbers, the release said.
The closed mills are being operated under private management at present. The retired workers will get an opportunity to work at the jute mills.
All the workers will be rehabilitated gradually, the release added.
