DRU inks group insurance deal with National Life Insurance
Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) has entered into a group insurance agreement with National Life Insurance PLC, extending financial security to its member-journalists.
Mahfuz Alam, information and broadcasting adviser to the interim government, attended the ceremony as chief guest.
Md Kazim Uddin, chief executive officer of National Life Insurance PLC, and Mainul Hasan Sohel, general secretary of DRU, signed the agreement at the organisation's office in Segunbagicha, Dhaka recently, according to a press release.
Abu Saleh Akon, president of DRU, presided over the event.
Under the scheme, 2,000 DRU members aged between 20 and 60 will be brought under insurance coverage. In the event of a natural death, the beneficiary will receive Tk 3 lakh, while Tk 3.8 lakh will be provided in case of accidental death.
For permanent disability, the benefit has been set at Tk 1 lakh, and Tk 70,000 for surgical operations. The agreement will remain valid for one year.
Saeed Ahmed, president of the Bangladesh Insurance Association, and Md Kazim Uddin, CEO of the life insurer, were present, alongside Obaidur Rahman Shaheen, president of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists; Rafiqul Islam Azad, former DRU president; and Gazi Anwar, vice-president of DRU.
