Bangladesh University organises seminar on career strategies and employer expectations

In light of evolving technological and market trends, the Department of Business Administration at Bangladesh University held a seminar titled "Building a Career in a Rapidly Changing World and Meeting Employer Expectations" to equip students with the skills and mindset required for the modern workplace.

The seminar took place on Saturday at 2pm in the university auditorium, drawing participation from corporate professionals, academics, and senior university officials.

Shehzad Munim, former Managing Director of British American Tobacco Bangladesh, delivered the keynote address. Emphasising the changing dynamics of the job market, Mr Munim noted that academic qualifications alone are no longer sufficient. He stressed the importance of technological competence, creative decision-making, and adaptability.

"Modern employers seek individuals who are not only capable in their roles but also possess a mindset geared towards driving organizational growth," Mr Munim said. He advised students to cultivate patience, discipline, and self-confidence at the start of their careers and shared personal insights into challenges he faced and overcame during his professional journey.

Shahnila Tajrin Azhar, a member of the Board of Trustees of Bangladesh University, served as special guest. She underscored the importance of innovation, teamwork, and ethical integrity for long-term career success. She also spoke on the need for greater female leadership, entrepreneurial thinking, and social responsibility among students.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Jahangir Alam reiterated the university's commitment to producing not only academically qualified graduates but also socially responsible future leaders. He stated that such seminars are an integral part of the university's broader educational mission.

The programme opened with a welcome address by Professor Dr Mozakkerul Huda, Chairman of the Department of Business Administration. He highlighted the need for universities to prepare students to become not only job seekers but also job creators, reaffirming Bangladesh University's dedication to this goal.

Students attending the seminar noted that such events provide valuable insights into real-world challenges and serve as a source of motivation for personal and professional development. Many expressed hope that the university would continue to organise similar initiatives.

The seminar concluded with an interactive Q&A session that generated significant engagement among attendees. The event was attended by deans, department heads, faculty members, and a large number of students.
