Bikers want withdrawal of restriction on highways

They said the decision taken by the administration to avert road accidents is logical, but majority of the accidents take place due to unskilled and illegal licence bearing drivers.

Motorcyclists belonging to different bike-related organisations formed a human chain in front of Jatiya Press Club on Tuesday, demanding withdrawal of government restriction on motorbikes on highways.

Earlier on Sunday, they submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner of Dhaka in this connection.

They said the decision taken by the administration to avert road accidents is logical, but majority of the accidents take place due to unskilled and illegal licence bearing drivers.

They should be barred from riding bikes on highways. However, drivers who have valid licenses should be allowed.

They claimed their Eid journey will fall into suffering if they are not allowed ride their bikes.

They said amid inadequate transport facility during Eid, many use their own transports to go home. It is possible to avoid accidents if the bikes are ridden abiding by the law. Restrictions on the movements cannot be the solution.
