British Council opens Young Learner English Centre at International Hope School Bangladesh
The British Council has launched a new Young Learner English Centre at the Uttara campus of International Hope School Bangladesh, expanding its English language teaching footprint in Dhaka.
The centre, inaugurated on September 19, aims to provide children and teenagers aged 7 to 17 years in the northern part of the city with greater access to high-quality English learning. It complements the British Council's existing Fuller Road centre in south-central Dhaka, offering families shorter travel and easier commuting options.
Courses at the new centre will be led by Cambridge-qualified teachers and are designed to encourage imagination and creativity while developing communication skills beyond the classroom. Parents will be able to monitor their children's progress through structured updates.
Speaking at the launch, Stephen Forbes, Country Director Bangladesh, British Council, said, "We are delighted to launch our new Young Learner English Centre in collaboration with International Hope School Bangladesh. This initiative reflects our commitment to providing world-class English learning opportunities for children and teenagers, equipping them with the skills they need to succeed academically and personally."
David Knox, Director Programmes, and Zunayed Ahmed, Director Operations-English and Exams, attended the event on behalf of the British Council. From International Hope School Bangladesh, attendees included Nazmun Nahar, Head of Pre-school and Primary section, Shamsil Arefin, Head of Senior section, Uttara, and Victor Datsyuk, Global Finance Director.
Classes at the new centre will begin on 3 October 2025, with registrations now open.
The British Council said the initiative is part of its wider mission to support peace and prosperity by building connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and countries worldwide. The organisation has been active for 90 years in education, arts, culture and language programmes.
